Sam Ogden

Sam Ogden is an innovative sculptor of almost universal appeal. Whether they are sinuous, beguiling airy curves of metal or handsome painted steel pieces using geometric forms in a new way, Sam's sculptures constantly define and redefine the space in and around them. His gift is the ability to make dense, unyielding metal into works of ephemeral delicacy and grace.

Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1925 and a resident of Vermont since 1930, Sam Ogden was educated at Phillips Exeter Academy and graduated from Princeton University. After an initial foray into aluminum furniture design, Sam eschewed the manufacturing life for that of a sculptor and has been pursing his muse full time for the last forty years.

Sam "cold forms" his metal pieces, applying minimal amounts of heat to achieve his remarkable shapes. It is his intuitive knowledge that brings together the beautiful intertwining motion that has become his hallmark. These are not mathematical creations, but rather the flowing lines of artistic expressionism.

The work of Sam Ogden is exhibited in scores of private and corporate collections throughout the world. He currently divides his time between his Landgrove, Vermont studio and Florida.
