ROBERT K. CARSTEN, PSA Considered one of the finest pastel artists working in New England, Robert K. Carsten is an enthusiastic promoter of the pastel medium. He is a popular workshop instructor and his paintings have garnered awards in both national and regional exhibitions including the Irene Hunter Award, the Academic Artists Award, and the Robb Sagendorph Award among others. He received his training at the Art Students League of New York, the Rhode Island School of Design and the Academia di Belle Arti in Carrara, Italy. "My art is as much about reality as it is about dreams; As much about a sense of place as about time; Memory, as imagination; Atmosphere, as substance.
"I am as interested in the depiction of three dimensionality, as in the objective relationship to the two- dimensional picture plane.
"My art is about harmony and balance. It is about the substantive nature of beauty and truth."
Robert is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, a "Copley Artist" in the Copley Society of Art, an artist member of the Academic Artists Association and the Vermont Pastel Society. Cherished for their exquisite light effects, refined paint surface and distinctive, introspective yet lyrical qualities, his still lifes and landscapes are prized by his avid collectors. Robert's paintings are featured in an exclusive interview in the Nov./ Dec., 2004 issue of The Pastel Journal magazine. |
