Craig Andrew Mooney "Essential Components of Place"
Craig Andrew Mooney has chosen to work primarily in oils. Born and raised in New York City, Craig has relocated to Vermont to allow the experience of the landscape and its weather to inspire his interpretive landscapes.
"These paintings do not represent specific places although many of them have a familiar feel to them. Rather, I set out to translate the emotional impact of a place that I visited and recreate it on canvas later in my studio.
"I like to work on several pieces at the same time and quickly. The painting surface must be wet to achieve the result that I am after.
"What is important is the reduction of elements to their essential components. It is the shifting of weather, the shifting of light that interests me."
Craig has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Artists' Choice Award from the Helen Day Art Center and a Fellowship Award and Grant from the Vermont Studio Center. His recent work has appeared in Conde Nast Traveler magazine. |
